May 4, 2022 – CINLUG Hybrid Meeting

Please note: Hybrid meeting with a new location—Moser Consulting in Castleton.

Topic: Firsthand Learning in Makerspaces

Presenter: Kim Brand

We will be hosting a hybrid, virtual + in-person meeting made possible by our new host, Moser Consulting! Moser has wonderful facilities and has graciously offered to host our monthly meetings going forward.

Kim Brand is on a mission to empower children to learn through doing. He, with his son, Adam, founded 1st Maker Space to help students discover a passion for learning by providing makerspaces and an engaging hands-on curriculum. Kim will tell us about makerspaces and what can be done about the loss of firsthand learning.

After the discussion, Kim may share with us what he has been up to in his other company, Server Partners, with their newest innovation of containerizing and deploying Samba 4 with Active Directory to replace Windows Server for small businesses.

KIm Brand is an Indianapolis-born entrepreneur who has founded and grown several technology companies since graduating in 1975 from Purdue University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, In 2013, with his son Adam, he co-founded 1st Maker Space LLC, an education technology company that helps educators design, build, and sustain makerspaces. Their aim was to bring more hands on learning to schools and more enthusiasm for learning to students.

Kim still leads Server Partners, a Linux-based Small Business File Server development and support company. Over 100 customers have used this server ranging from law firms to non-profits.
