Theo de Raadt, recently quoted as saying “(Linux) is terrible…Everyone is using it, and they don’t realize how bad it is” is on-record in a June 15, 2005 NewsForge Interview admitting he’s never actually used the OS he is criticizing.
Excerpt:
NF: The BSDs are still considered by some to be more technically correct than the Linux kernel. Linus Torvalds has said in the past that it’s not all about technology. Do you think the BSD project you work on is better technically for some or all uses than GNU/Linux (in general)?
Theo de Raadt: I don’t know. I have never run Linux.
This begs the question, if de Raadt has “never run Linux” did he spend months on end analzying every one of the more than 6 million lines of code in the Linux 2.6 kernel to make his assessment? Difficult to imagine, given the amount of time he spends working on OpenBSD.
