October 2025 CINLUG Meeting — End Of (Windows) 10

Many Microsoft Windows users are facing a problem in a few weeks:  Windows 10 support ends on October 14, 2025.  With Windows 11 minimum system requirements being stricter than Windows 10 requirements1, Windows users on older hardware2 have a decision to make:

  1. Continue using Windows 10, becoming more and more vulnerable to un-fixed security issues as time goes on.
  2. Buy a new computer.

But there is a 3rd option!  Maybe try GNU/Linux — there are people around the world willing to help during these “End Of 10” times!  Members of the Central INdiana Linux User Group (CINLUG) are some of them!

Come to our Wednesday, October 1st meeting (at 18:30 [6:30 PM] EDT) to:

  • Learn how to boot your computer off of a “Live USB/CD” image so you can try GNU/Linux without having to install anything or even touch your existing data!
  • See how easy it is to install GNU/Linux alongside your existing Windows 10 installation.
  • Participate in a discussion of which applications to use to do your work.  (What do I use instead of Microsoft Word?  Instead of Photoshop?  Etc.)
  • Receive a list of community resources on where to get help.

CINLUG thanks Moser Consulting for hosting our meetings at their facility3.  (There will be a phone number at the entrance to call to be let into the building.)  The meeting will be simultaneously broadcast over this Jitsi Meet URL for those who cannot attend in person.  (Though in-person attendance is encouraged.)

CINLUG meetings are the 1st Wednesday of every month, so please block that night off in your calendar to keep it available.  (We have upcoming presentations on 3D printing, Btrfs and Home Assistant.)  You are also encouraged to sign up for our mailing lists4 and follow us on various social media sites to receive announcements and participate in discussions.

After the meeting, we plan to go to the nearby Red Robin restaurant for drinks and camaraderie!  Plan to `make it a night`!
