Firefox Tops PCWorld Top 100 of 2005

Mozilla Firefox was voted the #1 product of 2005 by PCWorld Magazine. Other F/OSS winners included: Ubuntu "Hoary" (#26), Mozilla Thunderbird (#28), and Wikipedia (#60).

Microsoft placed once in the top 100 with Windows Media Player 10 (#47).

Firefox Still Tops IE for Browser Security

"Mozilla is forthcoming about vulnerabilities," Levy [of Symantec] said, whereas "it takes Microsoft far longer to acknowledge vulnerability."

How much longer? "In the last reporting period, the second half of last year, Microsoft had acknowledged 13 vulnerabilities. We've now revised it to 31. The difference is that now Microsoft has acknowledged these vulnerabilities."

That's more than double the number of problems Microsoft started with.
