Gnome Multi-Login Problem

Anyone heard of this?

We use gnome and when a user logs in from 2 different X-terminals, they get a "User allready logged in, login anyway? or abort login?" message.

If you say yes and log in...gnome doesn't like it. It works, but icons are all messed up, and when you log out, your settings often get messed up and the only fix is to blow away the .gnome directories and start over.

I'm starting to think gnome sucks and we are going to maybe have to go to KDE or XFCE? Any opions on this? Or help with Gnome would be appreciated.

OS: Fedora (mostly 2)
Kernel 2.6.10-HRT
Gnome: gnome-desktop-2.6.0.1-1

To better reflect current reality, why not change:

Maybe so, but he is still deferring to superior technology to solve a problem at work, even if he's choosing to use second tier technology at home.

A decisive victory for K D E !

Dave switching to KDE? A Kodak moment, if I there ever was one.

Re: Gnome Multi-Login Problem

http://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-deployment-list/2003-September/msg00017.html seems to imply that the Gnome developers were working on this problem for gnome 2.4 or later. Since 2.6 still exhibits the problem, you might need to switch to KDE (which apparently doesn't suffer from this issue) or something else.

I don't normally login from more than one place, but I just tried it and got the same message. When I do need to login from more than one place, I sometimes use VNC.

I prefer GNOME, but this may be a case where switching to KDE or XFCE might work better for you. LTSP probably includes something that would work for multiple logins, but I couldn't find out what they're using.
