Ideas???

I think another installfest would be great and it sounds like next February at the same place...virtual scavengers. I agree that 2 days would be better like 9-3 or something.

Well, what else can we do that would be different?

Should we have a cookout or something social?

Should we try and get some famous speaker? Who could help us do that?

Should we have some contests? Programming?

I don't know, just trying to seed the discussion boards...

Re:Ideas???

I would like to see John Andrews and/or Robert Shingledecker from Damn Small. They are doing very innovative things under 50mb. DSL is becoming a base OS for many Linux projects and has a member base over 3,000 people that is growing very rapidly!

Might be too pricey to get them, though. I am not sure exacly where they are located.

We haven't had an actual installfest in quite a while. The Boot Camp format (installation+basic usage training) seemed to be more useful than just installation help. I agree that 2 days with longer per-day sessions would work better.

I mentioned a cookout several years ago at a board meeting but nothing materialized out of that suggestion. I don't think we ever publically discussed having social gatherings. I do know the Nashville Linux Users Group meets at a restaurant after their LUG meetings and also occasionally throws B&P (beer and pizza) get togethers at local restaurants. We could do something similar if there's interest from the community.

I work with Ian Murdock (founder of Debian) who fortunately is a local resident. He's presented in the past. As for other famous speakers, we'd have to research how to get them to come speak.

Any of those would be interesting. Hopefully discussion will pick up soon :)
